Maple seed, like many “carp” baits, first spread in England. It is usually offered to fish after soaking and cooking, but a germinated version can also be useful.

When preparing it, care must be taken to achieve the appropriate consistency. After 24 hours of soaking and 20-25 minutes of cooking time, it reaches its characteristic, flexible but not yet pasty texture. In this form, it is a popular delicacy of carp. It forms a sweet, milky cloud in the water. Maple seeds have a high protein content compared to other grains, and together with their sugar content, this makes them an attractive food for carp. It can also be used for feeding or as a hook bait (usually offered on a hair rig).
